Greg Gilboy - generic modelling 4.3.09

The Grey water system subgroup is working towards the creation of a map for the Cairns region that will provide information on areas where systems may be installed and areas where installation will not comply with regulation. The group is working with the Cairns Regional Council and Tropical North Queensland TAFE GIS mapping students to complete the maps. Currently soil layers are being further identified for the Mount Sheridan pilot study area. Please see the document deposit relating to this work.

I had a session with Neil Whittaker by phone regarding the generic modelling of sites for Greywater.
He is giving me access to the flood zoning maps as a start and will allow us to provide typical suburb yes, no or maybes.
He doesn’t believe and neither do I that we can get better than that across the town.
There will be some suburbs that will be a definitive no and the remainder a maybe.
Definite no suburbs will be Parramatta Park, Manunda and the low lying ones around the central area of town.
Possibilities will be places like Forest Gardens, Edmonton etc. but that is all dependent on Lot sizes, slope and water course locations.
So we have made a start with some basic investigations and will progress this further over the next month.
