From 16 to 20 September 2013, Green Building Councils in 98 countries representing more than 25,000 organisations will host events, run campaigns and celebrate World Green Building Week under the theme: 'Greener Buildings, Better Places, Healthier People'. The Tropical Green Building Network event for WGBW 2012 was the launch of our:
Tropical Sustainable Design Case Studies project

he project is a joint initiative of the Tropical Green Building Network (TGBN) and James Cook University (JCU) and has been funded by the JCU Sustainability Fund. It is being supported by a Working Group whose members are from architecture, design, engineering, surveying, planning, education and environmental backgrounds.

Designing sustainably for the tropics is vastly different than designing for sub-tropical or temperate climates. The tropical sustainable design case studies project aims to capture and share the knowledge of best practice tropical expertise in our built environment.

The aim is to include all or part of completed new or retro-fitted tropical sustainable built environments encompassing the planning, design and delivery processes.

The case studies are currently being compiled and will be available on the JCU and TGBN websites for free for:
• Student, public and industry education.
• Promotion of design, consultancy and building services and product suppliers.
• Providing records for benchmarking and progress.
