June 2012 Draft National Building Energy Standards

June 2012 TGBN response to the Consultation on Draft National Building Energy Standards-Setting, Assessment and Rating Framework.

Comments from interested parties were received on the draft National Building Energy Standard-Setting, Assessment and Rating Framework. The Draft Framework was released by the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency on behalf of the Energy Efficiency Working Group (E2WG) of the Select Council on Climate Change (SCCC), representing the Commonwealth, states and territories.
The Draft Framework is intended to drive significant improvement in Australia’s building stock by establishing a pathway for future increases in minimum building standards to 2020, and improving the approach to assessing and rating buildings.
The consultation will provide a broad range of stakeholders with the opportunity to review specific policy proposals in the Draft Framework and make submissions.

The Consultation response was guided by a standard layout. Please find this attached along with the briefing documents that required review.
Of interest is the Pitt & Sherry and Sustainable House analysis of buildings, in particular, those located in Darwin.

It was noted in the webcast http://webcasting.net.au/climatechange/index.htm# and Study that further emphasis on the building envelope may not produce benefits for the costs involved and further efforts through direct design & re-design approaches were the most beneficial.
