Tropical Sustainable Design Case Studies Documentation
With ever increasing environmental, economic and social pressures globally, the need for sustainable building and development is stronger than ever. Sustainable built environments use resources more efficiently, are economical to operate, are more climate resilient and deliver new technology using world best practice.
Designing sustainably for the tropics is vastly different than designing for sub-tropical or temperate climates. The tropical sustainable design case studies project aims to capture and share the knowledge of best practice tropical expertise in our built environment.
The aim is to include all or part of completed new or retro-fitted tropical sustainable built environments encompassing the planning, design and delivery processes.
The project is a joint initiative of the Tropical Green Building Network (TGBN) and James Cook University (JCU) and has been funded by the JCU Sustainability Fund. It is being supported by a Working Group whose members can assist you when required. The Working Group members are from architecture, design, engineering, surveying, planning, education and environmental backgrounds.
We are pleased to invite you and your colleagues to submit Cairns & FNQ projects for a case studies publication. The case studies will be available on the JCU and TGBN websites for free and the main advantages of including your project/s is for:
• Student, public and industry education.
• Promotion of design, consultancy and building services and product suppliers.
• Providing records for benchmarking and progress.
We are collecting information and data for each case study by firstly asking you to to download three documents as follows:
1. Case Studies Introduction Letter
2. Case Studies Guide Document: This document provides details about what may constitute tropical sustainable design. It will assist the completion of the data collection sheets (described in point 3 below).
3. Case Studies Data Collection Sheets <<add link to TGBN website location>> The sheets need to be filled in by you and the layout forms the basis of the case study final template.
See them below for download
Please complete the data collection sheet.
Please submit completed Data Collection sheets and photos by 30th July 2013 to admin@tgbn.org.au or PO Box 952, Edge Hill, QLD, 4870.
