Adding Value by Building Sustainably by Kenick Constructions

Many home builders today face an opposite outcome – they build with high-performance products and practices that make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable, so rightly expect a premium. Yet, the home ends up appraising at the same level as traditional construction. This leaves them wondering, “why bother with green building?”

SEE ATTACHED THE POWER POINT PRESENTATION.

The purpose of the presentation is to outline what we do and how this has been perceived by both consumers and the industry.
Highlight the issues we and others in the industry are facing as quality builders in our region.
Understand the valuers perspective and how we can better work together.
Begin to place real values on aspects of sustainable and innovative construction that clients are actively seeking.
Begin the process of ongoing dialogue between affected and interested parties.

KEY FACTS:
* 80% of Kenick Construction clients incorporate more than one of the design features which improves energy efficiency/water efficiency (investors generally don’t and account for the remaining 20%). Consumers are becoming much more educated and see saving money in the long term as common sense as fuel prices rise. Just as they do when purchasing a new car.
* Kenick Constructions Display Home at 22 Kippin Close has won Australia's Best GreenSmart Display Home at the August 2013 National HIA Awards. Rachel Whymark of Kenick Constructions was also awarded the Australian GreenSmart Professional of the year. The designer, Sophie Barrett from Green at Heart also won a Building Designers Association State award and a National Built Environment Design Institute award. In fact, 22 Kippin Close Redlynch Valley has now won 3 National Wards, 1 State award and 9 regional awards including the regional Masters Builders Display Home 2013 (up to $275K) and Excellence in Sustainable Living.
